Development Update

Dear Members,

As we come to the end of 2024, you will have noticed a significant increase in construction activity at our Lidcombe venue, as our main contractor, Buildcorp, ramps up the delivery phase of our exciting transformation project.

A significant amount of work has been completed on the builders site compound in preparation for the increased activity on-site over the last six months. The compound, sited on the club’s land between Board and Ann St, provides workers with exceptional facilities.

Buildcorp shares DOOLEYS values regarding its workforce and have made significant investment to ensure that construction workers have a safe and comfortable environment that encourages true diversity in the workforce.

The visual impacts of the construction are certainly becoming more obvious, and at times acoustic impacts have also been unavoidable. Rest assured that we will continue to work extensively with the builders to ensure that impacts are kept to a minimum.

Scaffolding has been erected along our John St frontage to facilitate the construction of the club’s new façade. Designed by renowned architects, PTW, it will be a blend of traditional brickwork construction, with fine detailing, and large expanses of energy efficient glazing to maximise opportunities for natural light within the club. The temporary John St entrance will remain open throughout the facade construction until the facade is complete, and the new grand John St entrance lobby is open.

Piling works have also commenced to lay the foundations for the extension of the club on the corner of John and Board St. This extension greatly increases the footprint of the club and allows us to create a wide range of exciting new food and beverage offers as well as functions and events facilities here at Lidcombe.

Internally, works to the main restrooms adjacent to the Baileys Sports Bar are now complete. The result, a sumptuous new amenity which provides a glimpse of the aspirational nature of the project and the quality of the design and workmanship. Calacatta Viola marble is paired with a stunning mosaic tiles and dark, rich timbers. PTW’s interior design team boasts some of the most talented designers in Sydney, and we are sure you’ll agree that they have outdone themselves on this occasion.

Key Updates for the New Year
As we move into the new year, members can expect a series of changes, including the relocation of certain activities to accommodate the forthcoming works, all while striving to maintain an optimal experience. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this transitional period.

With the new restrooms on the ground floor becoming operational, we are now able to commence demolition of the existing restrooms at the John St Café and Members Lounge. These works are scheduled to commence in early January 2025. Once again, we apologies for the inconvenience, but we hope that the new amenities at Baileys Sports Bar will go some way to mitigate any inconvenience caused.

In the new year, the existing family-friendly facilities in the Kids Quarter will also relocate to allow the construction of the new elevators from the basement car park to the new John St reception up to the first floor. The Kids Quarter has been a resounding success, and we are committed to continuing to provide great family friendly facilities for our members to enjoy, which is why new play equipment will be installed in the Banksia Room in January 2025.

Next year the Banksia Room will transition into a truly multi-functional space. Well located next to Lloyds Bistro, this is a key part of our strategy to ensure the continued provision of a wide range of facilities for members during the construction works. We understand that these facilities may at times be at a reduced scale, and we thank members for their patience while we work through a challenging construction project.

The upcoming year marks another significant milestone in our club’s history, particularly as we continue development works at our Lidcombe property. We are excited about the future and are eager to share these developments with you as we go forward.
