Development Update

buildcorp
11 March 2025

We are pleased to report that work at Lidcombe has been progressing steadily since our last development update, despite the typical Christmas shutdown in the construction sector.

Currently, our focus is on the development of the new John Street entrance lobby and facade. This project has brought forth some intriguing construction methodologies and structural challenges, which the Buildcorp team is navigating with expertise.

On a broader level, we continue to advance towards the implementation of the Lidcombe Masterplan. Discussions with suitable delivery partners have begun, as we seek a company that shares our vision for a vibrant new town centre in Lidcombe. Additionally, the state government has introduced new planning pathways, which we are actively exploring to secure the necessary approvals for both our Lidcombe Masterplan and the Regents Park Seniors Living proposal. As previously mentioned, the new club façade is being designed by the renowned architects at PTW. This design will feature traditional brickwork with intricate detailing that harmonizes with the classic John Street streetscape, all while adding a contemporary twist.

In the coming months, scaffolding will continue to be erected along our John Street frontage. We want to reassure our members that access to the club from this entry point will remain open for your convenience. The existing temporary reception space is available to facilitate your visits during this time. We thank you for your continued support and patience.

Members will notice the Kids Quarter on Level 1 has now closed. In its place, we are excited to announce that new play equipment has been added to the Banksia Room on level one, ensuring continued facilities for families at the club during this period of transformation.

This new play space is open daily and provides a safe and secure environment for families to enjoy. Additionally, you can conveniently order from our Lloyds Bistro to this area via the QR codes on the tables.

The former Kids Quarter will be incorporated into the new John Street entrance lobby works, where new stairs and elevators will be constructed to connect the lobby and basement car park to the first floor.

We recognise the Banksia Room has evolved into a versatile multi-use space. While this may create some challenges as the area is shared, we sincerely appreciate our members' continued patience and support, especially as our younger patrons explore and enjoy the new state-of-the-art play equipment.

In preparation for our Lidcombe Masterplan, DOOLEYS will undertake a significant infrastructure upgrade project. This will involve diverting existing Sydney Water and Council stormwater assets from beneath the club and its landholding, ensuring that our Masterplan vision remains uncompromised. After a lengthy and technically complex design process, Sydney Water has recently granted approval for the diversion, marking another solid step toward our goal of revitalising the Lidcombe Town Centre. We will also initiate upgrades to gas and electrical capacity to support both the refurbished club and our future Masterplan.
