“A meal has the power to turn a house into a home and a stranger into a friend” – Melody Beattie
In July 2022, DOOLEYS staff had the pleasure of visiting Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney to participate in the Meals from the Heart program.
Meals from the Heart is a group volunteering program, providing families staying at Ronald McDonald House Westmead with a home-cooked meal three nights a week. Families can find comfort in coming home to a healthy home-cooked meal, hearing laughter in the kitchen, and enjoying a meal served by warm and friendly faces.
Often, parents and carers of seriously ill children simply do not have the time, funds or energy to prepare a meal after an emotional day at hospital. RMHC GWS alleviates not only the financial burden but also the emotional strain placed on families with sick children.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney's home-away-from home enables families with seriously sick or injured children to stay together, during one of the most stressful times of their life. The unique service includes 60 rooms in the purpose-built house, education services and home-cooked meals, located only 200 metres from The Children's Hospital Westmead.
In January 2022, DOOLEYS proudly sponsored a studio apartment at $10,000 for a family to stay at the House for 62 nights, enabling families to continue to enjoy everyday moments together during their child's treatment.
