Ahead of International Women's Day on Monday 8 March 2021, we did a short Q&A with some of the incredible women within our workforce to understand what this day means to them, how other women have inspired them and what we as a society can do to progress towards a gender equal world.
Featured below are the responses of Michelle Behn - Catering Team Leader at DOOLEYS Lidcombe Catholic Club.
What does International Women’s Day and this year’s slogan #ChooseToChallenge mean to you?
For me it means to challenge ideas and common practices through a critical lens. To question the status quo and ask ‘What can be done to improve gender equality?’ in all facets of life.
Which women have supported or inspired you in your career path?
My four daughters. Their differing personalities, strengths and life paths inspire me daily at work, but also in everything I do. They prove that women really can achieve so many wonderful and different things!
In your opinion, what can we as a society do to progress towards a Gender Equal world?
Support more women in leadership, and equally support women through motherhood and raising children, and have the structures in place that support women who want to do both. For society to view gender as a human right, that benefits all of humanity from a social, political and economic perspective ( to name a few).
