DOOLEYS Clubs have a strong focus towards building the health and well-being of future generations by ensuring we continue to help remove barriers to education, training and employment. In 2021, DOOLEYS Clubs provided funding to Australian Catholic University (ACU) for a Community Engagement Internship Scholarship, to assist a deserving student in achieving their university dreams.
The 2021 Internship Scholarship recipient, Lisa Chater, is a first year Bachelor of Social Work student at the ACU Strathfield Campus. Lisa beautifully embodied the Internship Scholarship; specifically a deep personal and professional commitment to community development, extensive and relevant experience in the non-for-profit sector, and excellent organisational and communication skills.
Throughout the course of her Internship Scholarship, Lisa volunteered with non-profit organisation HARDA (Horn of Africa Relief Development Agency) in Inner West Sydney. HARDA (https://harda.org.au/), a long-term community partner of DOOLEYS Clubs, currently runs national and international programs to support migrants and refugees from the Horn of Africa countries to settle in Australia. Lisa offered research assistance, mentoring and social support, and project work and has gained invaluable experience that has benefited her as an aspiring Social Worker and in turn made a meaningful contribution to the community.
DOOLEYS Clubs are committed to the education of students in Western Sydney and are proud to be funding tomorrow’s community leaders with the ACU Community Engagement Internship Scholarship.
Currently DOOLEYS Clubs annually support six Undergraduate Scholarships, one Postgraduate Scholarship and one Community Engagement Internship Scholarship.
